Maple Bacon Glazed Donuts

Maple Bacon Glazed Donuts

Cooking time: 30 mins

Serves: 8

Gluten-Free

Ingredients

1 dozen of your favorite local bakery’s glazed donuts

¼ cup maple syrup

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp heavy cream

1 lb bacon; crumbled

¼ tsp vanilla extract

¼ tsp dry nutmeg

Ingredients

  1. Preheat your grill to 375°F. Using a large sheet of foil, slightly turn up the edges to keep the rendered fat from spilling into your grill. Place the bacon on the foil, and cook for 10 minutes on one side, then flip it and cook for another 10 minutes. Remove bacon and let rest on a paper towel so that the bacon isn’t too greasy. Break bacon into small pieces. Remove foil and discard.
  2. In a medium saucepan, mix powdered sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and nutmeg. Cook over stovetop at medium (or on the grill in an oven-safe pan) until the mixture reaches a slow boil, stirring continuously for 5 minutes until very smooth. Turn the heat down to low (on the stovetop) or smoke (on the grill), and slowly stir in the heavy cream.
  3. Place the donuts directly on a lightly oiled baking sheet, and place on the grill. Cook for about 5 minutes.
  4. Move the hot donuts to a serving pan, and pour the maple glaze over the top, carefully placing a piece of bacon directly on top of each. Serve immediately.
